As we continue to “stay at home” and our students are trying to figure out online schooling, it’s important to make sure that they are not isolated emotionally. Teens need social interactions. We want to provide a safe way to connect during this unique season of life.
Outside of our weekly Zoom Hangouts we are launching a Discord Server (More on what that is in a moment) to hopefully cultivate a space for connection and social interaction during this season.
So what is Discord?
Originally it was a community app developed for gamers BUT it has since grown and is used by all sorts of communities and groups! Essentially Discord is simply a great communication platform that we can all use for free. It has multiple voice/video chat rooms and is available on many platforms including in a web browser and smartphones.
Our Discord Server will be private! So outside of the students and leaders (who will monitor the activity in the server) there won’t be anyone else around in this new digital space. Safety is priority! This will be a place for students to chat, see weekly devotions, and build connections as we continue in this season of social distancing!
Joining Our Discord Server!
Step One!
Download the App or go to discordapp.com!
Step 2!
Sign in / Create a free account, using the students First Name and First Initial of their last name. (This is to ensure safety of our students.)
Step 3!
Once you have the app downloaded and an account created the next step will be to accept our invitation to our private FYC server! You ca do that by clicking the button below!
Step 4!
Once you request to Join the server one of the FYC leaders will accept your join request! Then take some time to look around! We have channels for Middle School, High School, and the whole group! Ryan will even be hosting open office hours on Wednesdays from 1-4 for students to drop in and say hello!
PS. Every Student MUST use their First Name and First Initial of their last name so we can verify who they are before accepting any requests!
